Yarns: Karabella Aurora Bulky, Lana Grossa Diamante, Lang Yarns Lusso
I am not affiliated with The Knitting Place. These kits were purchased with my own money.
The City Lights Hat kits came with everything that you need to make these cute hats. When I saw them on The Knitting Place Podcast, I knew that I wanted one. The only problem was that I had a hard time picking whether I wanted red or pink. I figured that red would go better with my hair, so I ultimately decided to get that one.
However during Small Business Saturday, The Knitting Place had an online coupon, so I ended up getting the pink kit as well.
The hats were very simple to make, but they look great. The diamante yarn gives it an awesome sparkle and the lusso makes them so soft and warm.
The pattern was a simple one. It came included with the kit, but I couldn’t find it on Ravelry. The pattern really isn’t what makes it, any plain stockinette hat would work. The materials are what really bring the hats together.
I would have never thought of holding stranded sequins together for a hat with mohair, but I really like the effect. It’s furry and warm. I would suggest anyone try out an effect like this with different types of yarn that they have in stash. The Karabella was a bulky weight, but you could grab mohair and something similar to the diamante, and the possibilities are endless.
The City Lights Hat Kits really worked best for me, because with my mobility issues (and two children), it’s pretty difficult to get to a yarn store to look at different material. I really appreciate that The Knitting Place puts kits together and previews them on Instagram or Youtube, to let us see different options.
